Launch of the Built Environment National logbook : Activation and Registration drive

Dear Built Environment Professional

The Council for the Built Environment (CBE) which is a regulator of the built environment profession and a public entity of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI), will be launching the Built Environment National Logbook (BENL). This is part of implementing the interventions contained in the Built Environment Professionalization and Skills Development Strategy for the Public Sector, which was endorsed by the Minister for Public Works and Infrastructure, Honourable Sihle Zikalala together with Members of Executive Councils (MECs) in December 2023.

In the main, the Built Environment National Logbook will serve as an electronic platform to:

  1. Address the slow pace of transformation in the sector.
  2. Standardize the process of obtaining professional registration in South Africa.
  3. Track and monitor candidates on their journey to professional registration, facilitate online mock interviews and assist with preparing a portfolio of evidence.
  4. Ensure a standardized approach to structured candidacy and mentorship programs.
  5. Collaborate and partner with other bodies and organs of state in advancing career pathing of young people in the Built Environment.
  6. Centralize statistical data of the Built Environment’s professionally registered persons, candidates, students, and mentors in the country.
  7. Systematically and in a structured manner unclog bottlenecks, and address challenges in candidacy and mentorship programmes across the three spheres of government, SOEs, and the private sector.
  8. Platform to capture unemployed environment unemployed graduates in the built environment (electronic database) to assist young graduates with preparing for job interviews, screening, and mock interviews.

It is anticipated that the launch of BENL will be attended by roughly between 400-500, Built Environment students, professionals, government officials, private sector, and Lecturers.

It is against this background that the CBE wishes to invite you to the launch of the Built Environment National Logbook. The Details of the Event are as follows:
