The Architecture programmes of the School of Architecture Planning and Geomatics at the University of Cape Town is committed to, through its teaching, research, and interactions with society generally, advancing the project of Architecture to address the needs of socially just and inclusive cities in a developing, post-apartheid South Africa.
To engage with this urgent transformative project, the School is seeking to appoint a full-time academic staff member. We seek someone who is committed to the role that architectural design and research play in the creation of just and inclusive places. As we build and transform our School to responsibly address these challenges, we are looking for an individual who can make relevant and impactful contributions through their teaching, research and social responsiveness activities.
The applicant should demonstrate evidence of engagement with, and commitment to, architecture, design research and architectural education and help us build intersectional methodologies and alternative pedagogies of knowledge production. The applicant will be expected to participate actively in the intellectual life of the School, and add new dimensions to the teaching of architecture, through studios, workshops and seminars that engage with the spatial legacy of the colonial project in South Africa and the continent, and support innovation, cross-disciplinary work, and diversity. General responsibilities include teaching, research, administration and social responsiveness. The successful candidate will be required to teach across both Undergraduate and Postgraduate architecture programmes.
For this particular position, we are seeking a candidate at Professor or Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer level that can dedicate the time required to support the rich, diverse culture of the School, and contribute to the articulation of its leadership role.

Requirements applicable at all levels:
• a Masters’ degree (professional) or 5-year Bachelors’ degree in Architecture or equivalent professional architectural qualification
• PhD degree qualification
• evidence of social responsiveness (see: http://www.uct.ac.za/main/explore-uct/social-responsiveness) as it relates to your context

Additional requirements for a Senior Lecturer level:
• at least five years relevant teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
• a record of independent and original research as either peer-reviewed outputs and/or awarded creative works

Additional requirements for the for an Associate Professor level:
• at least seven years relevant teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
• a strong recent publication record of peer reviewed research scholarship and/or creative works
• a postgraduate supervision record
• demonstrated academic leadership and evidence of academic management experience

Additional requirements for the for a Professor level:
• at least ten years teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
• demonstrated impact on curriculum development and evidence of teaching innovations
• postgraduate supervision record, including PhD students
• a comprehensive body of peer reviewed research outputs and/or creative works related to your academic interests
• demonstrated academic leadership achievements and evidence of academic management experience beyond course requirements
