We are now looking to recruit a Consulting Manager: Urban Design into our Cape Town office to join our Urban Design Team.

Consulting Manager: Urban Design role
• Full-time position
• Location – Cape Town
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Will include but not be limited to:
• Defining client problems concisely and developing hypotheses to identify solutions.
• Project manage Urban Design projects / workplans from inception to final completion.
• Project manage internal and external teams of experts delivering complex multi-country assignments.
• Developing skills for people management and increasingly participate in workforce planning.
• Identify and escalate risks to project lead.
• Manage and carry out Urban Design production including drawings, reports and strategies.
• Strategically plan and deliver Urban Design projects through consultants and associates, while ensuring professional development of the Urban Design team in alignment with the Pegasys brand.
• Initiating and/or facilitating discussions with clients to elaborate on the areas of proposed improvements.
• Performing quantitative and qualitative analysis to drive the proposed solution. This includes:
o Quantitative research methodologies include design evaluation, creating design and data frameworks, and analysis.
o Qualitative research methodologies, including market research, stakeholder engagement and collecting design and institutional intelligence.
o Owning the consolidation and production of high-quality design, policy and institutional analysis to support the delivery of client projects.
• Presenting findings to clients, partners and senior decision-makers in government, and the private sector with a high level of confidence.
• Support new project acquisition by identifying strategic opportunities and being able to articulate what
the sector and clients require, by demonstrating an understanding of time required to deliver good
products.
• Support the practice in the promotion of our Urban Design capacity including seeking out and
capitalizing on new opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Required
• A Master’s Degree in Urban Design, recognised by The Urban Design Institute of South Africa (UDISA).
• A minimum of 6 years’ experience in urban design with a demonstrated ability to manage projects.
• Strong manual and digital graphic ability as well as a minimum of 5 years’ experience in AutoCAD, GIS,
Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and Sketchup.
• Project experience as an Urban Designer is essential.
• The ability to manage complex urban design projects across a range of scales.
• A demonstrated capability to work independently with clients, initiate and manage projects, facilitate
stakeholder engagement, structure documents, prepare and make presentations and meet deadlines.
• Exceptional graphic, design (3D) communication & presentation and report writing skills with a
demonstrated ability to sketch and draw by hand.
• Willingness and capability to handle office and project related administration including cost proposals and
progress reporting.
• Experienced in managing and delivering consulting assignments and comfortable with client and contract
management.
• Comfortable with undertaking and guiding junior colleagues in the delivery of quantitative analysis in Excel.
Preferred
• Undergraduate qualification in Architecture
• Experience of working in Africa and other frontier markets
• Urban Design, Architecture or Spatial Planning Experience in both public and private sector
• Foreign language proficiency in French or Portuguese.
