FIND AN ARCHITECT
THE CAPE INSTITUTE FOR ARCHITECTURE
Formed in 1899, the Cape Institute for Architecture is the largest regional architecture body in South Africa, with the potential to influence development in the City of Cape Town and beyond.
The Institute serves its members and the broader public by shaping the quality of South African architecture for the improvement of our collective built environment. We are committed to driving innovation and integrity within the profession, and inspiring young people to discover their potential as the architects of the future.
Over the last year, the Institute has been getting more involved in the many design and urban planning initiatives, and partnering with like-minded organizations, to provide support with access to the expertise of a very strong membership base.
One of the most important changes that has taken place the past year was the transformation of the organization into a more project-focused one, with projects driven by members passionate about the issues. This approach has encouraged more members stepping forward to volunteer, and allows the Institute to undertake more projects and initiatives. The CPD programme has also been completely overhauled and is now demand-driven.
The Cape Institute for Architecture has continued to review legislative issues on behalf of its members, such as the new zoning scheme, which will have a huge impact on both the profession and its clients, and yet somehow slipped under the radar and has had very little coverage or debate.
